Modular vs Manufactured
Repo/Preowned Homes have been around for quite some time now. New on the market are Modular Homes. Consumers are now faced with the question “What’s the difference?” We broke it down and listed some of the major similarities and differences.
Similarities between Modular and Repo/Preowned Homes:
They are both:
- Built in environment controlled factories.
- Are extremely strong structures because they have to hold up to the transporting to the final destination.
- Assembled at the site by local contractors.
- On-site assembly at the home site is quickly completed in a matter of a few hours to a few days.
- Because the factories build so many of these homes, very little waste is produced. This helps keep the prices low (and helps the environment).
- More cost effective than “stick-built” homes.
- Can be set on many different types of foundations; crawl spaces, slabs, basements.
What sets Repo/Preowned Homes apart?
- Are built on a permanent steel frame (chassis).
- Are transported on the homes own wheels and axels.
- They give you the most home for the money.
- Are constructed to meet U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) codes.
What sets Modulars apart?
- They are built to meet, and often exceed, the local and state codes of the home-site.
- Sections are transported to the building site on flat beds.
- Not restricted by building or zoning regulations.
- They’re extremely energy efficient.
